After Supper Visions
On Thursday, June 15th, ASV was grateful to be one of the select group of vendors chosen to be represented at the “Diamonds Are Forever” luncheon and boutique at Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette. Sponsored by Catholic Charities North Regional Office, this annual summer gathering offered a lovely range of items to generous shoppers who enjoy spending time together while raising funds for Catholic Charities. ASV Project Manager Katie Tuten and ASV Photo Team Member Jody O’Connor sold ASV prints, ornaments and other gifts, even selling out of the ASV note cards they had brought! Thank you, to all who came and bought ASV items at this special event. AND thank you, Katie and Jody, for your relentless dedication to ASV and its artists!
Artist Statements
It was a hard discussion to come up with all these very creative statements. It is the beauty a person can capture that gives me complete joy.
Maurice B.What I like about photography is trying to find that next great shot. It is the hunt for that picture I find the most fun.
Alvin O.What I like about the project is that it was fun doing it and I hope some sell. I like water and the river because they are peaceful and quiet. I wanted to capture the moment.
Aaron C.My personal escape…Spending years struggling to keep a roof over your head, a decent meal in your body and protective clothing from the elements causes one to lose sight of his surroundings. Photography taps into the soul and brings out the joy of freedom.
Reginald H.My friend and I go out to take pictures as a team and enjoy and compare.
Roberta J.These three shots were done during the late day because I was trying to capture shade, light and shadow to produce a scene that would be appealing and comfortable to the eye. The third shot with bike was an expression of reflection, light, and shadow.
Maurice P.Pictures give me a pleasure of good time. I like taking pictures in the mid-day hours because it makes my day go smoother and faster. Catholic Charities inspires me because of their hospitality every day in serving the homeless. I have been a part of Catholic Charities for 17 years – a very good organization.

Margaret A.Bike photo: I wanted a straight photo with a diagonal feel to it. I thought it was cool to take a photo like this. I tried to grasp a photo that no one else takes – a unique perspective. I like my photos to be an art piece hung in someone’s living room or office space.
Anthony B.I like to take pictures of the places I used to stay at when I was homeless. These photos remind me of my past, and the After Supper Visions Program is helping me move forward to a better place.
James L.I enjoy taking pictures of nature. That’s why I chose four pictures of birds from my day at the zoo. I’m inspired by the colors, background, and beauty.
Elizabeth M.I like taking pictures hoping that someone will be inspired by what Chicago looks like through my vision of what I see.
Bobby L.Photography is an art and I pray that my pictures are a good example of my talent as an artist.
Gerald G.This is my second year doing the After Supper Visions show. I really enjoyed it. Last year I took the picture of the rose during the Christmas dinner at Catholic Charities, a reflection of another building hitting the garage made an interesting light show and a mirror image on glass with dancing rain on a stormy night.

Chester P.The reason why I am writing this note is because I love to take nice pictures of buildings, cars, windows, animals and others too. Now, the reason why I take pictures is because it makes me feel good about myself. I need something positive to do. Photography is a nice thing to do, indoors and outdoors. Just holding a camera makes me feel special.
Sandra W.As I walked off the escalator at Harold Washington Library and caught sight of all those extraordinary dog tags, I thought of all the lives sacrificed. That in itself was enough to inspire me. The dog tags tell stories of men and women, some who lost lives and some MIA. My words cannot express how I felt when I took these photos. I can only say that my heart goes out to all those courageous men and women whom they represent.
Earl B.ONLY IN MY MIND’S EYE Do I enjoy my perfect photographs. perfect subject, perfect lighting, perfect composition. I then raise my camera, release the shutter, and that original moment in time is gone forever, never to be repeated again. It is a wonderful hobby, and could turn out to be an extremely interesting profession. It’s also a fun way to be an artist.

The unique symmetry of each variety of flower, shrub or tree is breathtaking.
