The Hinsdale Public Library Reception is just a little over two weeks away. All are welcome February 15th, from 6-8PM at 20 East Maple Street, Hinsdale to meet several artists, see ASV products and hear more about the history of the program.
Hinsdale Library chose three artists for this event, but there are dozens of artists who continue hard at work, taking photos, participating in photography classes and working with Photo Team volunteers to choose which images they would like to display in the Annual Photo Exhibition.
All are developing film, talent and hope, inspiring everyone who sees them grow in experience and knowledge of this very creative art form. Here’s to all of the artists, who continue to impress everyone with all of their efforts!
Mark your calendars for this perfect winter evening event: The Hinsdale Public Library will host a special reception for After Supper Visions on Thursday, February 15th, from 6-8PM. The Hinsdale Library is located at 20 East Maple Street in Hinsdale. Escape the cold and enjoy a warm and inviting gathering where some of the latest ASV artwork will be on display. Meet several ASV artists and hear their stories of how they have each discovered and developed their talents in the field of photography. This will be one inspirational event! There is a great deal of activity and excitement as ASV classes continue this December. Artists continue to attend photography classes where they learn about topics such as lighting, focus, time lapse and creativity. Some have already taken beautiful photos and now work with dedicated Photo Team volunteers to choose which ones might be best to display in the annual Photo Exhibition.

As mentioned in previous posts, one very special part of the ASV program is the genuine support that returning artists give to new artists each year, as they learn more about photography. The returning artists often have poignant, powerful things to say, about life and taking pictures as they share their experiences, in the photography classes and at the Tuesday Supper. However, we also still love to hear passionate comments from new artists, as they start to explore their own creative talents. One of the new artists this year is Andrea C. and this is what she recently said about participating in the ASV program:
“I can’t wait to take photos with my new camera. I learned a lot in the class; I learned about shadows and abstract photos. I do a lot of moving around and I hope to get some photos of the west side and south side. I want to go to the lake front and take photos there, too. I am so looking forward to seeing my photos. I truly enjoyed the class and the teachers who were very helpful. I now have something to look forward to when I start my day.”
We welcome Andrea and all of the new artists who have joined the program this year! May all of the artists find new heights of creativity and beauty in their images, as we prepare for the ASV 2018 Photo Exhibition!

The pilgrims who came to this New World first celebrated a meal of Thanksgiving in 1621, after the success of their first harvest. The United States of America celebrated Thanksgiving as a nation, on and off since 1789, once our Constitution was established. Then, President Abraham Lincoln officially made Thanksgiving a federal holiday in 1863. In his Thanksgiving Proclamation that year, President Lincoln wrote:
“I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.”
