All Are Welcome THIS FRIDAY

Sixty-six artists, with the After Supper Visions Photo Team of volunteers and Catholic Charities staff members, all together cordially invite you to the ASV 2017 Photo Exhibition this Friday, June 9 from 5-7PM at 721 N. LaSalle Street in Chicago. The exhibit continues Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11 from 12NOON-3PM each day.

Come meet the artists to discuss art, photography and life. See their photographic prints that, time and again, have been compared to artwork found in the finest galleries in the city.

Print copies can be ordered and mailed to you promptly. Our standard size is 8×10 but we are glad to order any print size you prefer. Ask us about our framing services, as well. Coasters, magnets and note cards will be available for purchase, too, with proceeds going directly to the artists who took each photo. In some years, gallery guests have purchased one print from every artist in the ASV show!

Photographer and environmentalist Ansel Adams (1902-1984) once said, “Not everybody trusts paintings, but people believe photographs.”

Come and believe, Friday.

“A Blessing For Everyone”

Six additional artists visited Mary’s Closet yesterday to receive a personal consultation and choose attire for the Opening Night Gallery Reception June 9th.  Toyia Baker and April Chandler have been trying very hard to help the artists look and feel their best in anticipation of the upcoming three-day photo show. Toyia is the skilled Program Coordinator who works for Catholic Charities and April is a very generous volunteer in the program. They are quite a team, as evidenced by a story April shared of what transpired with the ASV artists yesterday:

“We really enjoy meeting each of the artists. Yesterday, William’s story was special. Toyia and I were desperately looking for shoes in the right size shoe for William. Fifteen minutes before William arrived, Michael Seward (from the ASV Photo Team) dropped off a donation that included the most beautiful shoes that fit William perfectly. He was thrilled… Toyia was working non-stop today. She has been so gracious and kind to the artists. She is a blessing for everyone.”

Thank you Toyia and April!

Bring your family, friends and work colleagues as the artists debut their new looks, and their photos while they welcome the opportunity to visit with everyone who comes to see the amazing gallery of photos. Join us for the 15th Annual After Supper Visions Photo Exhibition, June 9th, 5-7PM, 721 N. LaSalle Street in Chicago.

Here are Roberta, Jerry, Reggie, Valerie, William and Ralph C. while at their personal visit to Mary’s Closet.

ARC Gallery To Host ASV Exhibit May 24-June 17

Chicago’s renowned ARC Gallery, 2156 N. Damen Avenue has generously offered to host a special exhibit featuring photos taken by ASV artists.

The show will run from May 24 through June 17. An Opening Night reception will take place this Friday, May 26, from 6-9PM. The gallery hours will be: Wednesday- Saturday, 12-6PM and Sunday, 12-4PM.

ARC Gallery is a non-profit cooperative operated since 1973 by women artists. As the ARC website states, “ARC works to empower women by providing professional and mentoring opportunities in the visual arts.” One way ARC does this by offering assistance to underserved populations.

Regarding the upcoming ASV exhibit, longtime ARC Gallery Member Amy Zucker says, “ARC is committed to being not just an exhibition space, but an educational foundation, as well. Part of that is providing experiences that feature artists who might benefit from showcasing their work at our gallery, while at the same time bringing attention to important issues. We are glad to soon feature the work of artists from After Supper Visions.”

Beyond donating the gallery space to display ASV photos for over three weeks, ARC Gallery also is generously foregoing the fee to host the exhibit and the 50% commission most galleries make for revenues generated while an exhibit is on display. ARC also is donating the refreshments for the Opening Night Reception on May 26. As ASV volunteer Linda Roxe explains, “I submitted an application on the ARC website’s Community Service link and we have been astounded at the generosity of their response.”

Every artist who participated in the 2016 ASV Photo Exhibition will have one photo on display at the ARC exhibit. Prints of these photos will be available for purchase and ASV will have other new items for sale at ARC, including magnets, coasters, cards and ornaments, all made from photo prints taken by the artists. Learn more at http://www.arcgallery.org/after-supper-visions.

Our sincere thanks to Amy, ARC President Cheri Naselli and everyone at ARC Gallery for this fantastic opportunity. Please join us this Friday from 6-9PM!

ASV Artists Prepare For June 9-11 Photo Exhibition With A Visit To Mary’s Closet

There is an old saying, “You only get one chance to make a first impression.” ASV artists Allen, Daniel and Lamont understand this well. They recently took it upon themselves to make sure they will look professional and confident at the ASV Annual Photo Exhibition  June 9-11, by visiting Mary’s Closet, the Catholic Charities program that provides clients with all they need to look and feel their best,  at job interviews and at special events in their lives.

Created by Catholic Charities Board Members in 2011, the staff and volunteers at Mary’s Closet offer attire fitting, professional consultation and image preparation that is tailored to each client. Regarding her recent meetings with Allen, Daniel and Lamont, Mary’s Closet Coordinator Toyia E. Baker said “It has been such a joy fitting and styling the After Supper Visions artists for their upcoming exhibit. Consulting them on their attire as a group displayed a camaraderie that is both uplifting and spirit-filled.”  ASV Project Director Katie Tuten, who also attended the meetings agreed. She said, “It was such a joyful experience. The artists loved it!”

These photos capture Allen, Daniel and Lamont, before and after they each had his personal consultation:

DANIEL

LAMONT

Seeing the joy that each artist had at the conclusion of his consultation, Toyia said, “They are living proof that your situation doesn’t have to dictate your character or the way one responds to the world.”

Mary’s closet works with many clients besides ASV artists. In fact, a visit to Mary’s Closet is one of the final steps toward self-sufficiency for Catholic Charities clients in these and other important programs:

Veteran’s Employment Program

Immigration and Naturalization Services

Family Shelter Programs

Refugee Services

CHA FamilyWorks

Maternity Services

Reflecting on the partnership between these two Catholic Charities programs, Mary’s Closet volunteer April Chandler says, “True service is being dedicated to helping others rise. The After Supper Visions team teaches hundreds of artists how to capture their powerful journey through photographs. This amazing Catholic Charities experience is as empowering and transformative for the artists as it is for the volunteers.”

Toyia agrees. She says, “Like many of our clients, when the artists see their transformation, you automatically feel the confidence radiating from them. This…is truly what makes what we do worthwhile.”

Thank you, Toyia, April and everyone at Mary’s Closet! We are inspired by your dedication to helping others, and honored to be partners with you.

The ASV Photo Team is working diligently to print, mat and professionally frame every image specially chosen by the artists to be featured in this year’s photo show. Please plan to join us from 5-7PM on Friday, June 9th for the Gallery Opening, at 721 N. La Salle Street in Chicago. We are celebrating Fifteen Years of Developing Film, Talent and Hope. It will be a truly uplifting, memorable night for all.
